Elsie Akosua Biraa Effah Kaufmann was born on September 7, 1969, at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana, and as of 2024, she was 55 years old.
She is the eldest of four children born to Yusuf K. Effah, a former headmaster of T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi and later the Western Regional Director of Education, and a mother who was a trained teacher.
Her sister, Belinda Yaa Dankwaa Effah, is a bank manager at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana Limited. She practices Christianity and belongs to the Akan ethnic group.
Kaufmann’s educational journey began at the Advanced Teacher Training College (ATTC) Demonstration School in Winneba. After her family relocated to Koforidua, she attended Nana Kwaku Boateng Experimental School.
She demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, advanced ahead of her peers, and successfully passed the Common Entrance Examination at a young age.
