Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu (born July 14, 1982), addressed professionally as Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, is a renowned Nigerian lawyer and media personality. He is best known for his work as a presenter on Big Brother Naija‘s popular reality show.

Born in Edo, Nigeria, he graduated from the University of Abuja with a degree in Law. He went on to work as a lawyer for a few years before pursuing a career in media. He has since hosted several television shows and is currently a presenter on Big Brother Naija.

Early Life & Education

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was born on July 14, 1982, to a banker father, Chief Ezeagada of Okija, and his mother, who worked as a nurse in a public hospital in Benin City, Edo State. He is the third of four children. He has an older sister, an older brother, and a younger brother. His elder sister is named Iphie Obi-Uchendu.

He finished his nursery and primary education in the city of Benin in central Nigeria and remarkably passed the secondary school entrance exam as early as Primary 4. After that, he and his family relocated to Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu finished his secondary education at Abuja’s Christ The King College before enrolling at the University of Abuja in 1997 and graduating in 2004. In 2005, he received his degree from the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja. 

After completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari in Abuja in 2005, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu returned to school. In December 2010, he received his Master of Laws degree from the Washington College of Law of the American University in Washington, DC, specializing in intellectual property and communications law from the Law and Government program.

Personal Life

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu proposed to HR manager Cynthia Obi-Uchendu, also known as Cynthia Obianodo, in Lagos on April 15, 2015. On February 6, 2016, they got married in Abuja.

They had a daughter named Jewel Obi-Uchendu on November 8, 2016. In 2018, they announced via Instagram that they would expect another baby. Their second child, also a girl, was named Rubi Obi-Uchendu.

Career

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu participated in the first season of the popular reality series Big Brother Naija in 2006 as one of the 14 housemates. He was the eighth person to be evicted from the show. He is currently the most successful and famous BBNaija housemate to date. In January 2017, he was chosen to host both Big Brother Naija’s third and second seasons.

After the reality show in 2006, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was awarded sponsorship deals with a major telecommunications company and a well-known brewing company. As a result, he hosted Friend or Foe on NTA, the GLO Show on NTA, and Guinness’ Greatness TV. 

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu also had a weekly column called Contrast with This day Newspaper for more than 4 years. He also contributed to other magazines like What’s New and Ace Magazines.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was named the new host of the Nigerian TV chat program Rubbin’ Minds in 2013.

He then interviewed notable figures from the Nigerian youth scene, such as Banky W, Gbenga Sesan, Seun Kuti, Oluchi Onweagba, Davido, Japheth J. Omojuwa, and Chika Unigwe.
