Early Life And Education

Nancy Kacungira was born on October 11, 1986, in Tanzania. She was born to his parents, whose father is Clifford Kacungira, but her mother’s identity is unknown.

She has one elder sister named Seanice Kacungira. Kacungira began her education at a missionary school in Dodoma, Tanzania. She then moved to Uganda for her O’ and A levels, attending Namasagali Boarding School and Kibuli High School.

From 2003 to 2006, Kacungira enrolled at Makerere University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Design and Visual Communications with First Class Honours.

Nancy Kacungira began her media career as a radio presenter while still a university student. By the time she completed her first-class degree, she had worked her way up from an intern to the Deputy Program Director position at Power FM, a Christian radio station in Kampala, Uganda.

2010, Kacungira co-founded Blu Flamingo, a digital media management company, with her older sister, Seanice. She then transitioned from radio to television, becoming a newsreader at NTV Uganda from 2012 to 2013. Kacungira later moved to Kenya, where she worked as a social media editor for KTN News Kenya in late 2013.

While still at KTN News Kenya in 2015, Kacungira applied for and won the prestigious Komla Dumor Award, which allowed her to undergo three months of training at the BBC. After returning to KTN News Kenya, she was eventually hired by the BBC, where she presented programs such as Focus on Africa, World News Today, and In Business Africa.

In 2016, Kacungira was selected as one of the two moderators for the Ugandan presidential debate alongside fellow BBC presenter Alan Kasujja. By 2020, she had become a main presenter for the BBC News Channel and BBC World News, often covering the second half of the BBC News at Ten on Friday and Saturday evenings and alternative Sundays.

Most recently, following the merger of BBC World News and BBC News in April 2023, Kacungira has become one of the main presenters and correspondents for the new channel.
