Maddow has one older brother, David. Maddow earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Stanford University in 1994 and later achieved a Doctorate in Philosophy (D.Phil.) in Politics from the University of Oxford in 2001 as a Rhodes Scholar.
