He played as a midfielder and made 269 appearances in the Premier League, including 130 for Manchester City.

Early Life And Education

 Joey Barton was born on September 2, 1982, in Huyton, United Kingdom. He was raised by his parents, Rita Barton and Joseph Barton.

Barton grew up alongside his brother, Michael Barton. He attended St Thomas Becket Catholic High School. Barton’s ethnicity is white, and his religion is Christianity.

Career

 Joey Barton pursued his dreams of becoming a professional footballer from a young age. He joined Everton’s youth system but later played for Liverpool’s youth team when he was 14. Barton had trials at Nottingham Forest but was rejected as he was deemed too small to make it as a professional. 

Undeterred, Barton joined Manchester City’s youth academy in 1999. He made his first reserve team appearance in the 2000-01 season and was given his first professional contract despite doubts about his future prospects.

Over the next two years, he transitioned to regular reserve team football before being promoted to Manchester City’s first-team squad in the 2002-03 season.

Barton made his Manchester City debut in April 2003 and scored his first senior goal later that month. He went on to establish himself as a regular in the Manchester City side over the following years.

In 2007, Barton joined Newcastle United for a fee of £5.8 million. He spent four years at Newcastle before moving to Queens Park Rangers in 2011, where he was named captain on his debut. Barton had several notable on-field incidents during his time at QPR.

After a spell out of the game, Barton returned to Burnley in January 2017. He made his second debut for the club in the FA Cup and scored the winning goal in his first Premier League appearance back at Burnley.
