He has an older brother named Paul Terry, a former professional footballer. Terry attended Eastbury Comprehensive School and played for the local Sunday league team, Senrab, in his youth. His ethnicity is white, though his specific religious beliefs are unknown.
Career
John Terry began his career in West Ham United’s youth system in 1991 before moving to Chelsea at age 14. He was initially a midfielder but was moved to center-back, the position he would play throughout his career.
After signing a YTS contract with Chelsea at 16 and turning professional a year later, Terry made his Chelsea debut in 1998. Terry was a regular in the Chelsea first team from the 2000-01 season.
