Career

Tobin Heath is a highly skilled American soccer player known for her creativity and technical ability.

She began her journey in soccer at a local YMCA and later played for the University of North Carolina, where she helped the Tar Heels win three NCAA championships. Heath’s college career earned her multiple honours, paving the way for a prosperous professional career.

Her first professional stint began with the New Jersey Wildcats, where she contributed to the team’s USL W-League Championship win in 2005.

She also played with several other clubs, including the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues and Pali Blues, helping her teams secure division titles and championship victories.

Heath’s professional career advanced when she was selected first overall in the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft by the Atlanta Beat.

Unfortunately, she suffered an ankle injury early in her tenure, which kept her out for the rest of the season. She later joined Sky Blue FC and played 12 games before moving to New York Fury when WPS folded in 2012.

After a short stint, she signed with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2013, where she had a solid run with five goals in 12 appearances.

Heath’s skills were further showcased when she became part of the inaugural roster for the Portland Thorns in the newly established National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2013.

During the 2016 NWSL season, Heath contributed to Portland Thorns, earning NWSL Player of the Month honours.

However, injuries began to affect her career, particularly a back issue in 2017 that sidelined her for a significant portion of the season.

Despite the setbacks, she continued to shine, starting the 2019 season with impressive performances, including NWSL Goal of the Week honours. Heath’s national team career has also been stellar, with her first senior appearance for the United States in 2008.

She was part of the U.S. team that won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and played a key role in the team’s victory at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

In 2020, Heath moved to Manchester United in the FA Women’s Super League, where she made an immediate impact by assisting and scoring her first goal for the club.

She was named to the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World11 the same year, a testament to her continued excellence.

After a brief time with Arsenal in 2021, where she was hampered by injury, Heath returned to the NWSL in 2022, signing with OL Reign. Unfortunately, her time with OL Reign was cut short by knee surgery, and her contract was not renewed.

Beyond her playing career, Heath is also an entrepreneur. In 2019, she co-founded a lifestyle brand, re-inc, alongside fellow athletes Christen Press, Megan Rapinoe, and Meghan Klingenberg.
