Mary Nightingale was born on May 26, 1963, in Scarborough, United Kingdom. She was raised by her parents, John Nightingale and Ann Stanley, along with her five siblings, including James Nightingale and Hannah Nightingale.

Career

Mary Nightingale has had an extensive career in television presenting. She co-presented the factual series Carlton Country about life in the countryside, as well as the Holiday programme on BBC One. In 1994, she became the first presenter of the early-evening show After 5 on the London News Network. Nightingale also worked as a co-presenter for ITV’s coverage of the 1991 and 1995 Rugby World Cups.

From 1996 to 1999, Nightingale co-presented the flagship news programme London Tonight on London News Network and presented the lunchtime news bulletin London Today. She then went on to anchor ITV’s holiday programme Wish You Were Here…? from 1999 to 2001, and presented The Really Good Food Show.

In 2001, Nightingale was promoted to the ITV Evening News and was part of the ITN team covering the 2001 general election. She has also fronted various other ITV programmes, including Holidays Undercover, The Girl Who Would Be Queen, and Diana – A Service of Thanksgiving.

Nightingale has been an occasional presenter of the ITV Lunchtime News and ITV News weekend bulletins, and previously acted as a relief presenter on ITV News at Ten. In 2011, she took over as the host of the ITV daytime cookery programme Britain’s Best Dish. In 2012, she presented the special programme William & Kate: The South Seas Tour on ITV.
