Nompilo Kholeka Gcaleka (born 1982) is an advocate of the high court of South Africa.

She is currently the deputy public protector. She was appointed by Parliament’s justice portfolio committee in November 2019 to replace Kevin Malunga.

Kholeka Gcaleka was born in 1982 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She grew up in a town in Harry Gwala District Municipality located in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

Kholeka Gcaleka was officially admitted as an advocate of the high court in 2006. She boasts of over fourteen years of experience as a lawyer and advocate.

She has served in several capacities including serving as a special advisor and senior state advocate and occupied the position of deputy director of public prosecutions. She is an Admitted Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and the former national chairperson of the South African Society of State Advocates.

She is a member of the Black Lawyers Association and is the current Director at Khonconsulting firm. She served as a special advisor to Malusi Gigaba during his tenure as the minister of home affairs and finance.

She was nominated by Advocate Adele Barnard and later appointed to serve as deputy public protector to take over from advocate Kevin Malunga after the expiry of his tenure. She was one of the eight candidates and she earned the position with her vast experience in the government through several positions she had served across her career.

Kholeka Gcaleka’s years of faithful service and hard work finally paid off and she emerged successful after the exhausting selection process in the Parliament. Those who were nominated alongside her include Moshoeshoe Toba, Shadrack Nkuna, Noxolo Mbangeni, Lwasi Phumelela Kubukeli, and Puleng Matshelo.

Kholeka Gcaleka is not married and has no children. Her vision is to utilize her legal knowledge to enhance good governance, ethical, sound legal, and strategic advice and practice.

She is a practicing Christian and a firm believer in constitutionalism and accountability. She is fluent in five languages including English, isiZulu, Setswana, Sesotho, Afrikaans.
