Early Life
Malam Kabiru Yusuf and Malama Khadijatul-Naja’atu welcomed Abba on January 5, 1963, in the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State. He attended Sumaila Primary School from 1968 to 1975.
The Government Secondary School in Dawakin Tofa was his next stop, from which he proceeded to the Government Secondary School in Lautai, Gumel, where he eventually graduated in 1980.
Abba Kabir Yusuf received his National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in 1985 and his Higher National Diploma (HND) in the same area from the Kaduna Polytechnic in 1989.
His following studies at Bayero University in Kano yielded an MBA (Master of Business Administration) and a postgraduate diploma in management.
Alhaji Yusuf Bashari, the grandfather of Gida, served as the district head of Gaya and Danmakwayon Kano in the past, and it was under his tutelage that the NNPP governorship candidate started his Islamic education.
Career
Beginning his career in the Kano State Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA), Abba Gida-Gida later shifted to the state’s Ministry of Water Resources, where he held several positions.
He served as Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso‘s assistant from 1999 to 2003 before serving as Special Assistant (Administration).
Abba once more collaborated with Kwankwaso from 2003 to 2006 while he served as Minister of Defense.
As a Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he served in Darfur/Somalia until 2007.
In addition, Abba was appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua to the Governing Board of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), which is situated in Ondo State, from 2009 to 2011.
Abba was picked to serve as the governor’s first principal private secretary (PPS) during Kwankwaso’s second term, and he later rose to the position of the state commissioner for transportation, housing, and work.
Abba Gida-Gida was thrust into the public eye during the hotly contested 2019 Kano governorship race between the opposition PDP and the incumbent APC.

Controversy
In September 2022, Abba was rumored to have solicited the public for a gift of one thousand nairas (N1,000) to support his campaign.
Abba charged Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje in 2020 with violating the law and due process regarding alleged public property transactions.
He requested immediate action from the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) in response to what he saw to be Ganduje’s abuse of power and disregard for the law.
