Abdul Hadi bin Awang (born 20 October 1947) is a celebrated Malaysian politician and religious teacher who has served as the Member of Parliament for Marang since October 1990. 

He has also been the 7th President of the Malaysian Islamic Party, an Islamist political party and a key component of the Perikatan Nasional coalition, since July 2002.

Abdul Hadi Awang, a prominent Malaysian politician, was born on October 20, 1947, in the Marang District of Malaysia. He is the fifth child of nine siblings, with his father’s name being Haji Awang Mohamad bin Abd Rahman and his mother’s name being Hajjah Aminah Yusuf. 

Abdul Hadi Awang attended neighborhood schools for his primary education before pursuing his studies at the Islamic University of Madinah from 1969 to 1973. He then went on to study at Al-Azhar University.

Career

Abdul Hadi Awang is a well-known Malaysian politician and Islamic scholar, deeply involved with the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) since the 1980s. His journey in public service began as an officer for the Terengganu Islamic Foundation from 1977 to 1978, during which he also served as the Terengganu Chief of Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM). 

In 1978, he started teaching at Maahad Al-Ikhwan (Institut Berakan), a private school founded by young PAS members in Mengadang Akar, Kuala Terengganu. When Anwar Ibrahim left ABIM in 1982 to join the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Abdul Hadi, Fadzil Noor, and Datuk Nakhaie Ahmad transitioned to PAS.
