Early Life And Education
Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle was born on February 12, 1969, in Maradun, North-Western State (now Zamfara State), Nigeria. He was born to his parents, Alhaji Muhammad Sharu and Hajiya Safiya Magaji.

Matawalle obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from Maradun Township Primary School in 1979. He then graduated from VTC Bunza in 1984.

Career
Matawalle started as a teacher at Government Girls College, Moriki and Kwatarkoshi, before joining the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Abuja.
He first ran for political office in 1998, winning a state House of Assembly seat. In 2003, he was elected to the House of Representatives, representing the Bakura/Maradun constituency on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform. He was re-elected in 2007, still as an ANPP member.
After briefly serving in the Abacha-era state House of Assembly and serving as a state commissioner from 1999 to 2003 in the Ahmad Sani Yerima administration in the Fourth Republic,
he first won an elected office in 2003 as a member of the House of Representatives for Bakura/Maradun. He retained the office until 2015, first as an All Nigeria Peoples Party member before switching to the People’s Democratic Party in 2011.
In 2011, Matawalle defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was re-elected to the House of Representatives on that platform. In the 2019 gubernatorial election, Matawalle ran as the PDP candidate and won, becoming the Governor of Zamfara State.
However, in June 2021, Matawalle defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking with him all three Zamfara Senators, six of seven Representatives, and all 24 State Assembly members.
The APC appointed Matawalle as the Zamfara APC Leader. After serving as Governor from 2019 to 2023, Matawalle has been the Minister of State for Defence since 2023.
