Bonginkosi Madikizela, a prominent South African politician, was born in the scenic town of Port Shepstone in the Natal province on March 15, 1975. Notably, his aunt was the legendary anti-apartheid activist Winnie Mandela, Nelson Mandela‘s wife.
Tragedy struck in 1990 when his brother was tragically murdered, leading Bonginkosi to relocate to Welbedacht in Chatsworth. During this period, he collaborated with a community leader to establish the Welbedacht Development Forum to aid the area’s impoverished residents.

These members had supported former Western Cape Premier and ANC Provincial Chairman Ebrahim Rasool in a leadership dispute against Mcebisi Skwatsha. After Skwatsha‘s triumph in the leadership election, Madikizela and some of Rasool’s supporters in Khayelitsha claimed they were sidelined within the party.

Feeling marginalized, Bonginkosi Madikizela and several other ANC members, including party councillors, declared their intention to run as independent candidates.
