Her father, Femi Adegoke, worked as a GP, while her mother, Feyi Adegoke, was a professor of physiology.

Badenoch spent part of her childhood living in Lagos, Nigeria, and the United States, where her mother lectured. She has two siblings: a brother named Fola and a sister called Lola.

Throughout her career, Badenoch has faced some controversy. In 2018, she admitted to hacking into the website of Labour MP Harriet Harman a decade prior, which led to the matter being reported to Action Fraud, the UK’s cybercrime reporting center.

In 2019, she was criticized for suggesting another MP was “making a point” by delaying her scheduled cesarean section to attend a House of Commons vote on Brexit.

Additionally, Badenoch published tweets in 2021 accusing a journalist of “creepy and bizarre behavior,” which drew criticism from the National Union of Journalists and the Council of Europe’s Safety of Journalists Platform.

Career

Badenoch’s political career began when she joined the Conservative Party in 2005. She ran as the Conservative candidate for the Dulwich and West Norwood constituency in the 2010 general election but was unsuccessful.

After a vacancy arose, She entered the London Assembly as an Assembly Member in 2015. 2017, she was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden in Essex.
