Monica Elizabeth Crowley was born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on September 19, 1968. She is the daughter of James Francis Crowley and his wife, though her mother’s name is not widely known. Crowley has a sister named Jocelyn Crowley, a professor of public policy at Rutgers University.

Crowley grew up in Warren Township, New Jersey, and graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School in 1986. She holds a BA in political science from Colgate University and a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University, which she obtained in 2000. Monica Crowley began her career in the mid-1990s, writing a regular column for the New York Post. Since 2009, she has served as a guest host for Bill O’Reilly on The O’Reilly Factor and his subsequent podcast. Crowley has also acted in television shows, appearing in 24 in 2001 and House of Cards in 2013, playing herself in both.

Some controversy has marked Crowley’s professional career. In 1999, she was accused of plagiarism related to a column she wrote for The Wall Street Journal. She has also been criticized for spreading conspiracy theories, including claims that former President Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim.
