Nancy G. Brinker shared a strong bond with her older sister, Susan G. Komen. Tragically, Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978 and eventually succumbed to the illness in 1980.

Nancy Brinker graduated from Lakewood High School in Lake Forest, Illinois, with her high school diploma in 1965.

Nancy G. Brinker, 77, married her first husband, Robert Leitstein, in 1969. They had one son, Eric Brinker, together but divorced in 1978. In 1980, her younger sister, Susan G.
