From a young age, Curry displayed an innate talent for basketball. Standing tall even as a child, he towered over his peers, giving him a natural advantage on the court.

Eddy Curry holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Sports Communication from Southern New Hampshire University, completing the program between 2022. Additionally, he is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management from the same university, commencing his studies in 2022.

Expressing remorse over his decision to forego college, Curry reflected on his time at Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. During his tenure, he garnered numerous accolades, including being named USA Today First Team All-American, PARADE High School Player of the Year, and receiving Illinois Mr. Basketball honors.

Personal Life

Curry is married and has seven children. One of his children, Eddy III, is from a previous marriage, while he shares four children with his current wife, Patrice Curry, known for her appearances on VH1’s Basketball Wives LA franchise.

Moreover, Curry has two children named Ava and Noah from his past relationship with Nova Henry, who was tragically murdered in 2009 along with their 10-month-old daughter, Ava.

Career

Curry initially committed to playing basketball at DePaul University but opted to enter the 2001 NBA draft instead, where he was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Chicago Bulls. During his rookie season, Curry’s playing time was limited, impacting his performance.

However, he showed improvement in his second year, leading the NBA in field goal percentage with 58.5%. This achievement marked the first time since 1998 that a Bull led the league in a significant statistical category, following in the footsteps of Michael Jordan.

In the 2004–05 season, Curry played a pivotal role in the Bulls’ significant improvement, contributing to an increase of 28 wins and securing a playoff spot.

Unfortunately, he was sidelined due to an irregular heartbeat, missing the final 13 regular-season games and the entire playoffs. Curry received medical clearance to resume practice on June 24, 2005.

Transitioning to the New York Knicks in 2005, Curry’s move was accompanied by controversy as he declined a DNA test requested by Bulls management to assess a potential congenital heart condition.

The trade involved multiple players and draft picks. Despite a decline in his performance during the 2005–06 season, Curry’s defensive and rebounding shortcomings frustrated coaches.

However, under the coaching of Isiah Thomas in the following season, Curry experienced a resurgence, establishing himself as the team’s primary offensive threat and achieving career-high statistics in various categories.

Despite facing challenges such as weight issues and injuries, Curry displayed determination to improve his fitness and performance during the off-season.

Controversy

Kuchinsky also claimed that Curry used racial slurs towards him. Additionally, Kuchinsky asserted that Curry owed him $68,000 in unpaid wages and $25,000 in expenses for items like cellphones and entertainment bills, which Curry allegedly never reimbursed.

Curry’s attorney, Kelly A. Saindon, dismissed these allegations as baseless and described them as an attempt at extortion. The lawsuit was dismissed by federal judge Denise Cote on May 28, 2009, and referred to arbitration.

Regarding the tragic events involving Curry’s ex-girlfriend, Nova Henry, and their ten-month-old daughter, Ava Curry, they were discovered murdered in Chicago on January 24, 2009.

A paternity test confirmed Ava as Curry and Henry’s daughter. Their three-year-old son, Noah, was found unharmed at the scene.

Frederick Goings, a 36-year-old attorney who had represented Henry in a custody case against Curry involving Ava and was reportedly romantically involved with Henry, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on February 22, 2009.

Goings was convicted of all charges on February 12, 2013, and received a life sentence two months later.

Regarding Curry’s financial matters, his Chicago home faced foreclosure as of June 2009 due to unpaid mortgage payments amounting to nearly $220,000.

Curry had taken out a mortgage of almost $4 million on the property in 2006, with monthly payments exceeding $25,000. Additionally, in June 2021, Curry was evicted from his residence in Katy, Texas, for violating his lease agreement.
