Early Life And Education

Michael Babcock Jr. was born on April 29, 1963, in Manitouwadge, Ontario, Canada, to his parents, Gail and Mike Babcock Sr.

He grew up with three siblings: Patricia, Katherine, and Karen. Babcock graduated from McGill University in 1986, earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Career

Babcock began his hockey career in 1980, playing for the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League (WHL) before moving on to the Kelowna Wings in 1982.

He spent a year at the University of Saskatchewan under coach Dave King and then transferred to McGill University, where he played for coach Ken Tyler.

Over four seasons with McGill, he became a two-time all-star defenceman and captain. He won the Bobby Bell trophy as team MVP, finishing as the second-highest-scoring defenceman in the school’s history.

In addition to his college career, Babcock attended the Vancouver Canucks NHL training camp in 1985 and played one exhibition game with them.
