His Test debut followed in March 2013 against Sri Lanka, where he impressed with a half-century, finishing his first series with an average of 52.00.

Mominul quickly established himself as a key figure in Bangladesh’s Test squad, achieving several milestones early in his career.

He scored his maiden Test century against New Zealand in 2013 off just 100 balls. He scored centuries in consecutive Test matches, becoming only the second Bangladeshi batsman to accomplish this feat.

In November 2014, he added his fourth Test century against Zimbabwe. Notably, he set a national record by scoring a half-century in at least one inning of a Test match for 11 consecutive matches.

Although he struggled with form in 2017 and was briefly dropped, he made a strong comeback against Australia.

In January 2018, he became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score centuries in both innings of a Test match, achieving the milestone against Sri Lanka.

In October 2019, Mominul was appointed captain of Bangladesh’s Test team following Shakib Al Hasan’s ban.

Despite leading Bangladesh to a historic Test win against New Zealand in early 2022, the pressures of captaincy affected his batting performance.

As a result, he stepped down from the leadership role to focus on his game, aiming to regain his form and consistency as a batsman.
