Early Life & Education

Sachin Tendulkar was born on April 24, 1973, at the Nirmal Nursing Home in Dadar, Bombay, to a Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin Maharashtrian family. His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, was a well-known Marathi novelist and poet, while his mother, Rajni Tendulkar, was employed in the insurance sector.

Ramesh Tendulkar gave him his name in homage to Sachin Dev Burman (S. D. Burman), one of his favorite musicians. Three older siblings make up Sachin Tendulkar‘s family: two half-brothers, Nitin Tendulkar and Ajit Tendulkar, and a half-sister, Savita Tendulkar. They were Ramesh Tendulkar‘s children from his first marriage; she died shortly after giving birth to her third child.

Sachin Tendulkar was reared at the Sahitya Sahawas Cooperative Housing Society in Bandra (East). He was considered a bully as a young boy and regularly picked confrontations with new students at his school.

Career

In 1987, Sachin Tendulkar‘s cricket career began when he was chosen to play for Bombay in the Ranji Trophy. Additionally, he was frequently used as a fielding replacement player and didn’t make it into any of the final 11 rosters during any matches. The 14-year-old Sachin Tendulkar was chosen to play for Bombay in India’s highest domestic First-class cricket competition, the Ranji Trophy, for the 1987–88 season on November 14, 1987. He was frequently utilized as a replacement outfield but was never chosen for the starting eleven in any of the games.

Sunil Gavaskar, his idol, had stopped playing all forms of cricket after the 1987 Cricket World Cup; thus, he nearly missed the opportunity to play with him. A year later, on December 11, 1988, Sachin Tendulkar debuted for Bombay against Gujarat at Wankhede Stadium. He was 15 years and 232 days old at the time. He became the youngest Indian to score 100 runs without being out in a first-class cricket match.

When the Indian squad arrived at the Wankhede Stadium to play the visiting New Zealand team, Dilip Vengsarkar, the then-captain of Bombay, saw him handily defeating Kapil Dev, India’s finest fast bowler at the time, in the cricket practice nets.

In the domestic Indian championships that followed, the Deodhar and Duleep Trophies, he notched a century. As of the end of the 1988–1989 Ranji Trophy season, Sachin Tendulkar had scored the most runs for Bombay. He was the eighth-highest run-scorer overall, with 583 runs scored at an average of 67.77 runs per game. He led Mumbai in the 1995–96 Irani Trophy match against the Rest of India’s team.

In 1988 and 1989, Sachin Tendulkar was chosen to tour England twice with a young Indian team organized by the Star Cricket Club. Additionally, he scored an undefeated century while representing the Rest of India in the Irani Trophy match against Delhi at the opening of the 1989–90 season. His 96 from 75 balls was crucial in the memorable 1990–91 Ranji Trophy final, which Haryana won by two runs over Bombay after taking the lead in the first innings when Bombay attempted to chase 355 from just 70 overs on the final day.

While serving as captain, Sachin Tendulkar scored 140 and 139 against Punjab at Wankhede in the 1995 Ranji Trophy final. His innings for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final at Wankhede Stadium included 53 against Hyderabad, 128 in 2000, and 105 and 43 against Bengal in 2007.

He scored his first double century (204*) for Mumbai in a 1998 match at Brabourne Stadium against an Australian team that was on a visit. He is the only player in his three domestic first-class tournaments to record a century on debut (the Ranji, Irani, and Duleep Trophies). Sachin Tendulkar also scored a double century in an inning of 233* against Tamil Nadu in the 2000 Ranji Trophy semifinals, which he considers among his finest.

Personal Life

Sachin Tendulkar, a cricketing maestro and a man of legendary status, tied the knot with the charming Anjali Tendulkar, a gifted pediatrician hailing from the fertile land of Gujarat. It was the year 1990 when their paths crossed for the very first time, and destiny decided to play cupid.

Anjali Tendulkar‘s grace and wit soon won over his heart, and they embarked on a journey of togetherness, one that was filled with a profound sense of love and companionship. After their union, Anjali Tendulkar, a woman of substance, became a full-time housewife, dedicating herself to the family’s well-being and nurturing her offspring.

Their progeny, the handsome Arjun Tendulkar and the delightful Sara Tendulkar, are the epitomai of grace and talent, taking after their celebrated parents in more ways than one.
