Barcelona Triumph Over Almeria with Fermin Lopez’s Brace
May 17, 2024 0 Posted By Kaptain KushBarcelona solidified their hold on second place in La Liga EA SPORTS with a decisive 2-0 victory over Almeria at the Power Horse Stadium on Thursday night, extending their lead to four points.
Fermin Lopez, the 21-year-old midfielder, was the standout performer of the match, single-handedly securing the victory for the Blaugrana with his two goals. His first goal in the first half set the tone for the match, and his second goal after the break sealed the win, underlining his growing importance to Xavi Hernandez‘s squad.
Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona coach, made strategic changes to the lineup from their recent win over Real Sociedad. He introduced four young La Masia graduates into the starting eleven, including 17-year-olds Lamine Yamal, Hector Fort, and Pau Cubarsi. This move highlighted the club’s continued investment in youth and their commitment to developing young talent.
Almeria, already relegated and with a challenging season, tried to pose a challenge for Barcelona in front of their home crowd. However, the game started poorly for them. Hector Fort delivered a precise cross in the 14th minute, which Fermin Lopez expertly headed past Luis Maximiano to give Barcelona an early lead, setting the tone for the match.
Despite starting only 12 games this season, Lopez‘s performance marked his sixth La Liga goal, underscoring his effectiveness and promise as a midfielder.
Almeria had a golden opportunity to equalize when Lazaro set up Leo Baptistao, who went one-on-one with Marc-Andre ter Stegen but failed to convert. Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal, nearly doubled the lead before the half-hour mark, but his shot struck the post.

Almeria continued to press, with Jonathan Viera assisting Adri Embarba, whose effort also hit the post, leaving the hosts frustrated. After halftime, Almeria’s woes persisted as Anthony Lozano missed a clear chance from 12 yards out after a defensive error by Cubarsi.
Barcelona eventually slowed the pace but cemented their dominance in the 66th minute. Sergi Roberto‘s dynamic run and low cross found Fermin Lopez, who confidently scored his second goal, effectively ending Almeria’s hopes of a comeback.
The final minutes saw little action as Almeria succumbed to their 23rd defeat of the season. Barcelona, meanwhile, moved closer to securing second place, now four points ahead of Girona with only two matches remaining.
