Darkoo Accuses Mr. P of Sabotage; Management Denies Claims
January 13, 2025British-Nigerian rapper Darkoo has accused Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of the iconic P-Square duo, of sabotaging her career. The accusations stem from her latest single, “Focus on Me,” which samples P-Square‘s hit track “Gimme Dat.”
Darkoo claimed that her music video was mysteriously taken down from YouTube for six days, alleging Mr. P‘s involvement after she reportedly declined his request to feature on the track. She further stated that, despite obtaining all necessary clearances for the sample, Mr. P removed the video in an alleged attempt to undermine her success.
However, Mr. P’s management, ONE MANAGEMENT, quickly issued a statement titled “Why Darkoo Should Come Out Straight,” firmly denying the allegations. They labeled Darkoo’s claims as “baseless” and “self-serving,” suggesting she leveraged the controversy to promote her single. The statement clarified that neither Peter Okoye nor Jude Okoye had directed her to avoid communication over sample clearance and denied any role in the video’s temporary removal.
According to the management, the issue arose from a misunderstanding or disagreement over collaboration terms and sample use, not malice. After the matter was resolved amicably, they confirmed the video had since been reinstated.
