Dubai Finally Lifts Visa Ban on Nigerian Passport Holders
July 15, 2024Dubai has lifted its visa ban on Nigerian passport holders, marking a significant development in the diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Nigeria. This decision comes after months of negotiations and diplomatic efforts between the two nations.
Effective immediately, Nigerian passport holders can now apply for visas to travel to Dubai, ending a period of uncertainty and frustration for many Nigerians planning trips to the popular destination. The lifting of the ban is expected to boost tourism and business activities between the two countries.
The Nigerian Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, announced the announcement following successful talks and extensive, mutually beneficial negotiations between the Governments of the UAE and Nigeria.
“Following successful talks and extensive, mutually beneficial negotiations between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an agreement was reached allowing for the resumption of travel to the UAE for Nigerian passport holders. The resumption of visas will be effective from July 15, 2024,” said Idris.
The visa ban, which had been in place since October 2022, was a major point of contention between the two countries. The ban was initially imposed due to concerns over the authenticity of some Nigerian passports and the risk of fraudulent activities.
As part of the agreement, Nigeria has agreed to implement new measures to ensure the integrity of its passport issuance process. These measures include introducing a Document Verification Number (DVN) system, which will be required for visa applications.
“Nigerians wishing to learn more about the updated visa conditions from the UAE can visit documentverificationhub.ae for any additional information,” Idris added.
The lifting of the visa ban is expected to positively impact both countries’ economies. Dubai, known for its vibrant tourism industry and business opportunities, is a popular destination for Nigerians seeking leisure and business opportunities.
Nigerian travellers are advised to check the updated visa requirements and apply in advance to avoid any last-minute complications. The resumption of visa issuance marks a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the UAE, paving the way for increased cooperation and exchange between the two nations.
