Finland Freezes Assets, Detains Biafran Agitator Simon Ekpa in High-Security Prison

Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafran agitator, and detained him in Kylmäkoski Prison, one of the world’s most secure penal institutions.

Ekpa has been in custody for several weeks on terrorism-related charges. Alongside him, the Finnish government has also seized the assets of companies tied to him and four other individuals suspected of being his accomplices. These alleged accomplices are also currently detained.

Reports from Finland’s national broadcaster, Yle, indicate that Ekpa is being held in Kylmäkoski Prison, a high-security facility in Akaa known for its rigorous measures and for housing individuals convicted or awaiting trial for severe crimes, including acts of violence.

Ekpa’s arrest, along with the apprehension of the four others, occurred about four weeks ago. The charges include incitement to violence and financing terrorism. Finnish police have confirmed that the Päijät-Häme District Court remanded Ekpa on allegations of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent.

This decisive action by Finnish authorities highlights their firm stance against activities that promote violence or support terrorism, whether domestically or internationally. Ekpa’s case has garnered significant attention, particularly in Nigeria, where he remains a polarizing figure due to his involvement in calls for Biafran secession.
