Mass Protests Erupt in London Over Tommy Robinson’s Arrest
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in central London over the weekend, demanding the release of far-right activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. The demonstration, one of the largest in recent memory, was marked by chants, banners, and a show of solidarity among Robinson‘s supporters.
The protest followed Robinson’s arrest under the Terrorism Act after he reportedly refused to provide his mobile phone’s PIN to authorities. Organized as the “Unite the Kingdom” rally, the event focused on political censorship and mass migration, drawing widespread attention online.

Marching from Victoria Station to Parliament Square, protesters waved British and English flags, along with banners reading “Free Tommy Robinson.” Chants of “We want Tommy out!” echoed through the streets, as attendees voiced frustration over immigration policies, government actions, and perceived double standards in law enforcement. Some demonstrators wore “Make Britain Great Again” hats, while others held signs such as “Pensioners before illegal immigrants.”
The Metropolitan Police deployed 1,000 officers to maintain order, as counter-protesters from Stand Up to Racism staged their own demonstration nearby. Despite efforts to keep groups apart, at least four arrests were reported for breaches of the peace and racially aggravated public order offenses.
Speakers, including interim UKIP leader Nick Tenconi, criticized the government’s handling of legal proceedings and law enforcement policies. The crowd responded with cheers and boos, particularly at mentions of Labour leader Keir Starmer.
Robinson, a controversial figure known for founding the English Defence League, has long been at the centre of legal battles and public debate. His arrest and the mass rally for his release underscore deep divisions in Britain over free speech, immigration, and law enforcement practices.
