The Nigerian film industry is grieving the untimely passing of actress Patience ‘Pat’ Ugwu, popularly known as Sugar Girl, who died at the age of 35. Ugwu, celebrated for her roles in Lack of Money (2018), Port-Harcourt Lady (2019), and Twist of Fate (2020), was a vibrant force both on and off-screen.

News of her passing was confirmed through social media, with veteran actor Emeka Okoye among the first to announce it. In an emotional Instagram post, Okoye shared a funeral poster and expressed his grief, lamenting the frequent losses within the industry. “Rest in peace, sis. Pat Ugwu. @patpat_ugwu, so we won’t get to work again? Death, why? God, please. Rest in peace, Pat,” he wrote, reflecting the sorrow felt across Nollywood.

Beyond acting, Ugwu had a strong online presence as a fitness coach under PatPat Fitness, a beauty entrepreneur, and a Permanent Makeup Trainer. Her outspoken nature and confidence made her a beloved figure in the entertainment and business spaces.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed, but her passing has left a deep void in Nollywood. Many industry figures, including Rita Edochie, Destiny Etiko, Nkechi Blessing, and Kevin Mike, have publicly expressed their grief.
