Senator Natasha Accuses Akpabio of Retaliation Over Rejected Sexual Advances

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has levelled serious allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, claiming he has been targeting her in the Senate as retribution for rejecting his alleged sexual advances.

She made these accusations during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Friday, February 28, 2025, where she recounted an incident she says sparked their conflict.

According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the tension began on December 8, 2023, during a visit to Akpabio’s residence in Akwa Ibom for his birthday celebration. She recalled Akpabio personally gave her a tour of his home, holding her hand while her husband followed. During the tour, she alleges that Akpabio made an inappropriate remark, inviting her to “come and spend special moments” at his house. “My husband heard him,” she stated, adding that later that night, her husband warned her against travelling alone or being in private settings with the Senate President.

My situation is like a student being punished by a lecturer for refusing to sleep with him,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said, comparing her experience to an abuse of power. She claims that after rejecting Akpabio’s alleged advances, he retaliated by obstructing her work—reassigning her Senate seat without prior notice and repeatedly dismissing her motions. “Akpabio is punishing me because I refused to sleep with him,” she asserted.

These accusations come amid ongoing tensions between the two lawmakers, which recently escalated into a heated confrontation on February 20, 2025, over a disputed seating arrangement in the Senate chamber.

During the altercation, Akpabio ordered the sergeant-at-arms to remove Akpoti-Uduaghan after she protested the reassignment of her seat—an act she views as an attempt to suppress her voice. Additionally, she has filed a ₦100 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and his aide, Mfon Patrick, over a social media post she claims damaged her reputation.

As of now, Akpabio has not responded to these latest allegations, and attempts to reach his office for comment have been unsuccessful. However, the claims have ignited widespread debate, with many calling for an independent investigation into the conduct of the Senate President, Nigeria’s third-ranking government official.
