Kovalchuk, originally from Lviv, Ukraine, had gained a significant following on OnlyFans, where she was known not only for her content but also for her outspoken stance as an anti-war activist. Friends described her as ambitious and independent, frequently travelling for modelling opportunities. However, her sudden disappearance and the horrific injuries she sustained have left her family and supporters in shock.
Her mother, Anna Kovalchuk, flew from Norway to be by her side, revealing that Maria has already undergone four surgeries. “She is receiving medical treatment, and everything will be alright,” Anna told reporters, though Maria remains in critical condition and unable to speak.
Kovalchuk was last seen on March 9, when she reportedly attended a party in Dubai after being invited by two men who claimed to be modelling industry representatives. She was scheduled to fly to Thailand on March 11 but never made it to the airport, prompting her family and friends to file a missing persons report. For ten days, her whereabouts remained unknown, sparking widespread concern.
On March 19, she was discovered bloodied and unconscious by the roadside. Initial reports indicated she had suffered multiple broken bones, leading to speculation that she may have been left for dead. Russian media outlets, including Shot and Life, reported that she was rushed to a hospital, where surgeons worked tirelessly to save her life.
Dubai Police released a statement claiming that Kovalchuk sustained her injuries after entering a restricted construction site and falling from a height. However, her family has challenged this version of events, with her mother declining further comments due to the ongoing investigation. This discrepancy has fueled speculation about what truly happened during her disappearance.
Many believe the party Kovalchuk attended was linked to a disturbing trend known as the “Dubai Porta Potty” phenomenon. This term, popularized on social media, refers to secretive high-stakes parties where wealthy men allegedly pay social media influencers and models for degrading and extreme acts. TikTok users and online sources claim that participants are lured with promises of luxury, only to face coercion, violence, or worse.
Russian lawyer Katya Gordon, commenting on Kovalchuk’s case, warned young influencers about the dangers of such events. “She was found dying on the roadside after a party with Arab sheikhs. The scandal surrounding Porta Potty parties has been raging for over a year,” she stated. Gordon further claimed that disturbing videos online show women being abused at these gatherings, urging: “Don’t go to such events for money—you could end up dead.”
Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, an organization assisting foreigners facing legal issues in the UAE, echoed these concerns. “We have received multiple complaints from influencers and artists who were invited to parties, only to find themselves in dangerous situations,” she said. While sex outside marriage is now legal in Dubai, Stirling warned that event organizers exploit these relaxed laws, putting women at risk.
Dubai is often seen as a luxurious playground for the rich and famous, but Kovalchuk’s case has cast a shadow over its reputation. Allegations of exploitation, abuse, and coercion continue to surface, raising concerns about the hidden dangers lurking behind the city’s opulence.
Russian model Angelina Doroshenkova (Ally Breelsen), a friend of Kovalchuk, revealed she had also been invited to the same party but declined, leaving Dubai days before the incident. Her decision may have saved her from a similar fate, highlighting the risks associated with such invitations.
As Dubai Police continue their investigation, authorities have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information. Meanwhile, Kovalchuk remains in critical condition, unable to share her side of the story, leaving many questions unanswered.
