Comedian AY and Wife Mabel Makun Call It Quits After 20 Years Together

Famous Nigerian comedian, Ayo Makun, widely known as AY Makun, and his wife, Mabel Makun, have confirmed their separation after two decades of marriage, citing personal reasons.

AY took to his Instagram page on Sunday to announce the development, expressing his decision to refrain from publicly discussing deep personal family issues. He emphasized the importance of protecting the mental well-being of his grown-up daughter, who has access to social media.

In his statement, AY said, “Many people believe that staying silent simply means that one is incapable of dealing with issues. Projecting a negative narrative against someone who is not struggling to defend himself doesn’t mean he is weak.”

He continued, “Yes! Without compromising my family, I have found myself doing things that I am not proud of today. Watching my friendship/marriage of 20 years slip off my hands is one thing, but it’s another thing for the parties involved to understand how to appropriate the blame.”

Mabel Makun, on her part, shared a post on her Instagram page on the same day, indicating her decision to distance herself from disrespect without engaging in drama or arguments.

She wrote, “Distance is my new response to disrespect. I don’t react, I don’t argue. I don’t dive into the drama. I just remove myself.”

AY Makun and Mabel Makun tied the knot in November 2008 and are parents to two children.
