Nigerian Branding Expert Uche Ugo, aka U.U., Passes Away

Shockwaves reverberated through the industry on Monday night as news of Uche Ugo‘s demise surfaced. Colleagues and friends, especially in the design community, expressed their grief on social media, changing their display pictures to blue, synonymous with U.U.
Victor Fatanmi, co-founder of Fullgap, encapsulated the sentiment, stating, “Creative Nigeria just lost a gem.” The outpouring of tributes emphasized Uche Ugo‘s profound impact on the creative landscape.
Uche Ugo‘s career spanned graphic design, event design, and branding, contributing significantly to major Nigerian entertainment projects and musicians’ careers, including notable events like Bovi’s Man on Fire and Iyanya Live in Concert.
Fatanmi shared his memories, stating, “When I was starting in design, he was already a leader in the craft. He designed some of your favorite song arts, crafted brands, and embodied one himself. He’s UCHE UGO, and his color was blue.”
While the cause of Ugo‘s passing remains uncertain, recent tweets indicated his concerns about the Nigerian health system. His contributions extended beyond the creative realm with the launch of U.U. Series in 2018, a platform providing a branding masterclass for designers and entrepreneurs. Ugo also founded KLASSIT, an ed-tech initiative offering personalized one-on-one live classes.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Uche Ugo dedicated his skills to his Christian community at Celebration Church International (CCI), serving as the head of design for CCI Worship.
