Wash-a-thon: OAU Student’s Record Handwashing Attempt Ends in Hospital
November 28, 2023In a determined bid to set a new Guinness World Record, Subair Enitan, an Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) student, embarked on a handwashing marathon that lasted a staggering 58 hours, surpassing her initial goal of 50 hours. However, the triumph took a toll on her health as she now finds herself in the hospital.
The official X handle for the marathon shared the news on social media, highlighting that Enitan concluded the marathon in the early hours of Monday. A circulating video on various platforms depicts the aftermath of the feat, showcasing Enitan‘s hands as they turned white and wrinkled due to the prolonged handwashing.
The video also captures Enitan lying on a bed in what appears to be a medical ward. Despite the arduous effort and dedication, the Guinness World Record has yet to officially recognize Enitan as a new record breaker.
This incident raises questions about the physical toll such extreme challenges can have on individuals, even when pursued with admirable determination. As Enitan‘s story gains attention, it prompts a reflection on the lengths people go to achieve extraordinary feats and the potential consequences on their well-being.
