Unlike previous seasons, the winter break has been scrapped in favor of a longer summer break for players. To ease the holiday schedule, matches will be more spread out, with no games scheduled on Christmas Eve.
The summer transfer window opened on June 14 and will close on August 30, 2024, with the winter window running from January 1 to February 3, 2025. This season also introduces semi-automated offside technology, a new development agreed upon by all Premier League clubs, which will be implemented after one of the autumn international breaks.
Manchester City enters the season as four-time defending champions, looking to continue their dominance. Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton are joining the top-flight action and have all been promoted from the Championship.
Leicester and Southampton return after just a year, while Ipswich Town returns to the Premier League after a 22-year absence. These promoted teams replace Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United, all of whom were relegated after just one season.
This is the first time since 1997–98 that all three promoted sides have been relegated in the same season. Notably, this season also marks the first time since 2015–16 that the Premier League will have no representation from Yorkshire.
