Early Life and Education
N’Golo Kanté, who is now 33 years old, was born on March 29, 1991, in Paris, France. Kanté, a practicing Muslim, was born in Paris to Malian parents who immigrated from Mali in 1980.
He grew up in a small apartment in Rueil-Malmaison, Hauts-de-Seine, and faced the loss of his father at a young age and his elder sibling before the 2018 World Cup.
He was named after King Ngolo Diarra of the Bamana Empire and has a younger sister who was also involved in the youth system at Suresnes.
During his time playing for Boulogne, Kanté earned a diploma in vocational accounting at the age of 21. He initially commuted to training on a kick scooter and later drove a Mini Hatch after moving to England.
Despite being perceived as shy and private, Kanté’s teammates’ stories about him are often exaggerated according to him.
Personal Life
Kanté is currently married to Jude Littler. Littler was formerly married to Djibril Cissé. Littler eventually tied the knot with N’Golo Kanté. However, the details of Kanté and Jude’s marriage remain unknown as they both prefer to keep their personal lives private. Additionally, there is no publicly available information about their official marriage or any children they may have.
Career
Kanté started his professional journey at the age of eight with JS Suresnes in the suburbs of Paris, where he stayed for ten years. Assistant manager Pierre Ville mentioned that Kanté went unnoticed by big teams because of his small stature and team-focused playing style.
He was even turned down by the Clairefontaine academy during this time. In his final season with Suresnes, he scored 10 goals in the Promotion d’Honneur league.
In 2010, despite an offer from Arsenal, Kanté joined the reserve team of Boulogne after being personally driven around to different clubs by Suresnes’ president, who was a close friend of Arsenal’s manager Arsène Wenger. Kanté made his professional debut in the last game of the Ligue 2 season in May 2012.
He then moved to Ligue 2 side Caen in 2013, where he played all 38 games in his first season, helping the team earn promotion to Ligue 1. In the following seasons with Caen, Kanté continued to make significant contributions on the field, including scoring crucial goals and leading in ball recoveries.
Born to Malian parents, Kanté was approached by Mali before the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as he had not played for France in any of their age group teams.
Kanté declined the invitation, stating that he was focused on establishing himself in Ligue 1. In January 2016, Mali extended another invitation to Kanté, but he remained undecided about which national team to represent if he received an invite from France.
On 17 March 2016, Kanté was selected for the France senior squad for the first time to play against the Netherlands and Russia in friendlies. He made his debut against the Netherlands and scored on his 25th birthday in a match against Russia.
Kanté also appeared in his first competitive match for France during Euro 2016, where he played a key role in the team’s victory against Romania.
He was part of the 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and featured in all 7 matches for France in the tournament. Kanté was awarded Man of the Match in a game against Denmark and started in the final match.
